The A1 course is designed specifically for people aged 17 or over who want to get rid of their Learner plates, or carry pillions. Training and practical tests are conducted on a 125cc, allowing you to ride a motorcycle or scooter up to 125cc (with a maximum power of 11kw).
The strict definition of A1 category machines is of motorcycles or scooters up to 125cc and with a maximum power of 11 KW or 15bhp. The main advantage to completing your A1 license is that you will be a far safer rider. As you have not only completed one days training for CBT but would have also completed many hours with an instructor getting you to test standard. You would have also been assessed by a DVSA examiner before obtaining your A1 license.
Let’s also not forget all the other benefits you receive from completing your A1 licenses such as, not having to display Learner plates front and back, not having to complete a CBT every two years, and being able to carry a pillion. All of which makes the A1 license quite attractive to some people!
